Makeovers are all around us. You see them online, you see them on Americas Next Top Model and Dr. Oz, and you probably even see ads in your local papers from spas that are purporting to offer you a makeover. We have to wonder, what do you really need to look good? Is it new clothes, a new hairdo and a weight loss program?
We think it might be something entirely different. What do people notice about you first? What do you notice first about other people? We think it is probably nothing more nor less than your smile.
Your Smile Makeover
At Martin Dentistry, we can’t help you with weight loss, or makeup, or any of those other things that are supposed to transform you. You are on your own with that. But what we can do is fix a smile that does not please you. We offer a full range of cosmetic dentistry treatments, including dental implants, dental crowns, porcelain veneers, bonding, inlays and onlays, and teeth whitening. It is probably safe to say that there is no such thing as a dental imperfection that we cannot fix.
A smile makeover can be just one of these treatments, or a combination. Essentially, it is whatever it takes to make you happy with your smile.
Think about what displeases you when it comes to your smile. If you have unsightly metal fillings, we can take them out and replace them with tooth-colored fillings. If your teeth are overlapping or gappy, we can fix you up with a set of porcelain veneers. If your teeth are chipped, cracked or uneven, we can correct that with bonding, crowns, or porcelain veneers. Missing teeth can be corrected with implants, or bridgework. If your teeth are yellowed or dull, we can give you a whitening treatment.
For every dental issue, there is a solution, and the benefit is always an improved smile.
Dr. Doug and Dr. Dax are professional cosmetic dentists who can tell you about the treatments you can consider to improve your smile. Sometimes, there are a variety of options available for a particular issue and they can advise you as to which solution is most appropriate for you.
What to Do Post-Makeover
Any dental procedure, whether it is restorative or purely cosmetic, requires after-care. And how long your treatment stands up will depend on the level of care you maintain following the procedure. Just as an example, if you have dental crowns installed, you know that they will never decay because they are made of dental ceramic. But you still have to think about the teeth that are under those crowns – if there is a chip in the crown, decay can invade the underlying structure. And your gums still have to be considered – gum disease can cause crowns to fail.
Porcelain veneers are even more vulnerable. Again, the veneers themselves will not decay, but you still have your own teeth under the veneers. So again, there is a possibility of decay or gum disease.
Essentially, if you care for your smile makeover in the same way that you should your own teeth, with regular brushing and flossing, professional cleanings, and also regular visits to Dr. Doug or Dr. Dax for checkups, your makeover will last you a very long time.
